Caring for All Types of Animals

Small Mammals at Bayview Animal Hospital

Bayview Animal Hospital provides comprehensive pet care and education for many different types of small mammal pets, including gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits, and rats. If you do not see your animal listed here, please contact us. If we do not serve your particular pet, we will do our best to refer you to a hospital that does.

Expert, Caring Professionals

Dr. Sarah A. Gebbie is one of our associate veterinarians who regularly treats our small mammal patients. Dr. Gebbie completed her undergraduate education in 2002 at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 2006. Under the care of one of our most seasoned professionals, you can rest assured your small mammal pet will receive the proper support necessary to ensure his or her health. Small Mammal Services

Depending on the type of pet you have, we are able to provide a range of services, including:

  • Dental/oral care
  • Habitat consultation
  • Nail trims
  • Nutritional recommendations
  • Surgical procedures (select)
  • Vaccinations
  • Wellness/preventive care

While not every patient is a candidate for these services, our team always prioritizes your pet’s health and safety and can provide excellent referrals to other trusted specialists for care.

Preparing for Your Visit
To ensure their safety around other animals in a strange environment, always bring your pet in a travel cage/container.

Bring along your pet’s preferred food and/or water in case your visit lasts longer than anticipated.

Do anything else that will minimize your pet’s stress and anxiety. This may include covering his or her travel cage with a sheet and ensuring the temperature isn’t too hot or cold.

Get Educated About Your Pet

If you are a new owner of a small mammal pet, it’s especially important that you schedule an appointment with us to discuss the basic needs of your special animal. We strive to enhance the health and wellness of every pet, and caring for a small mammal can be quite different than caring for a cat or dog. Unique consideration should be given to matters such as diet, exercise, and cage structure. There is a plethora of information (and misinformation) available, and your best option is always to consult veterinary professionals such as the team at Bayview Animal Hospital.
